Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Highlights Record Wheat Procurement, Criticises Opposition Over Farmer Issues…

Date:

CHANDIGARH, HARYANA — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday addressed key issues related to agriculture and farmer welfare, highlighting record wheat arrivals in mandis while also criticising the opposition for what he described as creating a misleading narrative around farmers’ concerns.

Speaking in Chandigarh, Saini said he had come to discuss important issues related to farming and agriculture, particularly focusing on the ongoing procurement season and the arrangements made by the state government. He emphasised that the government has taken comprehensive steps to ensure that farmers are able to sell their produce smoothly and without inconvenience.

The Chief Minister reiterated that Haryana has witnessed a historic arrival of wheat in mandis, pointing out that on April 11 alone, around 7.71 lakh metric tonnes of wheat reached procurement centres. He described this as a significant achievement, reflecting both a successful harvest and the efficiency of the procurement system established by the government.

Saini stated that the government had made extensive preparations ahead of the procurement season, including the establishment of adequate procurement centres, proper storage arrangements, transportation facilities, and timely payment mechanisms. According to him, these efforts have ensured that farmers are not forced to face delays or logistical challenges.

He also highlighted that the state is committed to ensuring that farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) without any delays, which he described as crucial for protecting farmers’ incomes and maintaining their trust in the system.

At the same time, Saini criticised the opposition, alleging that it has attempted to create a negative perception about the condition of farmers. He said that the opposition is portraying a situation as if farmers were highly satisfied during their tenure, which he disputed.

“I am present here to speak about the farmers of Haryana who have brought their crop to the mandis. We have seen what kind of atmosphere the opposition has created,” he said, adding that the current government is working actively to address farmers’ needs and improve agricultural conditions.

The Chief Minister asserted that the ground reality reflects a different picture, with farmers benefiting from improved procurement systems, better infrastructure, and timely payments. He said that the large-scale arrival of wheat itself is evidence of the confidence that farmers have in the mandi system.

Saini also emphasised the importance of continuous engagement with farmers, stating that the government remains open to feedback and is committed to resolving issues promptly. He said that agriculture remains a priority sector for the state, and policies are being designed to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.

He further noted that Haryana continues to play a crucial role in contributing to the country’s food security, and the state’s farmers are at the forefront of this effort. The government, he said, is working to support them through better infrastructure, modern farming techniques, and efficient market access.

Observers note that agricultural issues often become a focal point of political debate, especially during procurement seasons. Saini’s remarks reflect the government’s attempt to highlight its achievements while countering opposition criticism.

The Chief Minister concluded by reiterating that the government remains committed to ensuring smooth procurement, fair pricing, and overall welfare of farmers, while continuing to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in the state.

The statement underscores Haryana’s strong performance in wheat procurement and reflects the ongoing political discourse surrounding farmer welfare and agricultural policies in the state.
