Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with Secretaries of key ministries on Tuesday to review the progress of rural development, agriculture, social welfare, and allied sectors in advancing the government’s Viksit Bharat vision.
Held at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, the meeting focused on strengthening governance, improving inter-departmental coordination, promoting youth empowerment, and accelerating reforms aimed at improving citizens’ lives.
Senior officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of major ministries, and representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the welfare of citizens should remain the guiding principle behind every government reform.
He said reforms should be designed around people’s needs and should deliver meaningful improvements rather than merely enhancing administrative processes.
According to the Prime Minister, governance reforms should contribute directly to India’s long-term objective of becoming a developed nation under the Viksit Bharat mission.
Highlighting the changing nature of governance, the Prime Minister stressed the need for government systems to evolve in line with emerging challenges and opportunities.
He suggested that ministries and departments undertake comprehensive mapping of future governance requirements to improve planning and policy implementation.
The Prime Minister also emphasized adopting a whole-of-government approach, encouraging ministries to work together instead of operating in isolated silos.
Prime Minister Modi said the vision of Viksit Bharat should become a people’s movement (Jan Andolan) with India’s youth playing a central role.
He emphasized that empowering young people through coordinated government initiatives would be essential for achieving the country’s long-term development goals.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening youth-focused programmes across multiple sectors.
Addressing social challenges, the Prime Minister underscored the need for coordinated action against drug abuse among young people.
He called for the creation of institutional mechanisms that encourage better collaboration between government departments to ensure a more effective and integrated response to substance abuse.
The objective, he said, is to improve convergence across ministries working on youth welfare and social development.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to sports development.
He observed that sports tourism is emerging as an important sector and said India should aim to host major international sporting events to strengthen its position as a global sports destination.
He further encouraged the promotion of innovation and technology in sports through startups and entrepreneurship.
The meeting also reviewed developments in the agriculture sector.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the potential of the PM-KUSUM Scheme, stating that its wider adoption could bring significant transformation to Indian agriculture by supporting sustainable farming practices and improving energy access for farmers.
He also stressed the need to map global skill requirements so that India’s workforce can better align with emerging international employment opportunities.
Secretaries from various ministries presented updates on initiatives, achievements, and challenges in their respective sectors.
