GURUGRAM, HARYANA — The district administration in Gurugram has launched a large-scale demolition drive to remove illegal encroachments in upscale residential areas, particularly in DLF Phase 1, Phase 2, and nearby colonies.
According to officials, the drive has been ongoing for the past five days and has already led to the removal of more than 6,000 encroachments, including unauthorized structures such as guard rooms and extensions into green areas meant for public use.
Speaking on the operation, Amit Madholia, Director of Town and Country Planning (DTP), said that the effort is not limited to DLF areas alone. A total of seven teams have been deployed across different colonies in Gurugram to identify and remove illegal constructions.
He explained that the teams are focusing on clearing internal roads of various widths, including 10, 12, 15, 18, and 24 metres, which had been narrowed due to encroachments over time. The objective is to restore proper road width and improve accessibility for residents and emergency services.
Madholia added that the scale of the area is quite large, and despite continuous work over five days, only DLF Phase 1 and Phase 2 have been covered so far. He said that the teams begin their work at around 10 a.m. each day and continue until approximately 7:30 p.m.
Highlighting the intensity of the operation, he said that teams are walking nearly 9 to 10 kilometres daily, and over the course of five days, they have collectively covered around 300 kilometres while carrying out demolition and clearance work.
Officials also noted that the drive is being conducted despite challenging weather conditions, including high temperatures and dehydration risks, but the teams are continuing their work to complete the task sector by sector.
The administration stated that the aim of the drive is to restore public spaces, improve urban planning, and ensure that residents can use roads and common areas without obstruction. Encroachments had been causing inconvenience, traffic issues, and safety concerns in several parts of the city.
Authorities have indicated that the drive will continue in other areas of Gurugram until all illegal encroachments are removed, and strict action will be taken against violations in the future.
The large-scale operation reflects the administration’s efforts to improve urban infrastructure and maintain planned development in one of Haryana’s fastest-growing cities.
