GURUGRAM – A wave of shock and grief has gripped Wazirpur village in Gurugram following a harrowing incident where a 39-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and four minor children before attempting to take his own life. The tragedy, which occurred late Saturday night, has left the local community reeling as authorities piece together the events that led to such a devastating loss of life.
The accused, identified as Nazim, a native of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh who operated a local hair salon, is currently in critical condition at a government hospital. Police reports indicate that Nazim allegedly administered poison to his 35-year-old wife, Nazma, and their four children—three daughters aged 14, 11, and 6, and a 7-year-old son—before attempting suicide by slitting his own wrists and neck.
Discovery of the Crime
The incident came to light around 9:30 PM on Saturday when Nazim’s younger brother, Zeeshan, arrived at the family’s rented first-floor residence for dinner. Upon entering, he was met with a gruesome scene: his sister-in-law and the four children were lying unconscious on the floor, some reportedly frothing at the mouth. Nazim was found nearby, severely injured and lying in a pool of blood.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and the family was rushed to a nearby medical facility. Tragically, doctors declared the wife and all four children dead on arrival. Nazim, though critically injured, survived the initial attempt and was moved to intensive care.
Official Police Statement
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Naveen Sharma, who arrived at the scene with forensic experts and crime teams, confirmed the grim details to the press.
The bodies have been moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which officials say will be crucial in determining whether the victims were strangled before or after being poisoned.
Probing the Motive: Financial Strain and Domestic Issues
While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, initial inquiries suggest a complex web of personal and financial troubles. Neighbors and relatives have pointed toward a possible financial crisis involving an unpaid loan, which reportedly led to frequent arguments between Nazim and his wife.
In a brief interaction with investigators before his condition worsened, Nazim allegedly claimed that “the family did not wish to live,” a statement the police are treating with caution. Authorities are also looking into reports of a potential second marriage or ongoing domestic strife that may have pushed the situation to a breaking point.
A Community in Mourning
The victims have been identified as:
- Nazma (35)
- Iqra (14)
- Shifa (11)
- Aayan (7)
- Khatija Noor (6)
The family had lived in Wazirpur for several years after migrating from Uttar Pradesh, and Nazim was well-known in the area due to his salon business. Friends and neighbors expressed disbelief, describing the family as seemingly ordinary until this sudden eruption of violence.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The Gurugram Police have registered a case of murder and are waiting for the accused to be declared medically fit for a formal interrogation. Forensic teams are currently analyzing the chemical composition of substances found at the residence to identify the poison used.
This tragic event highlights the dire need for mental health awareness and community support systems, especially for families facing extreme financial or domestic pressure. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on seeking justice for the five innocent lives lost in a single night of inexplicable tragedy.
